If you walked into any rock venue in the 80’s there was one band that you could not miss… Rhabstallion, who rode the wave of ‘Heavy Metal’ glory, with TV appearances and national media features, alongside sharing the stage with bands such as Hanoi Rocks, Diamond Head, Stampede, French band Trust and Saxon. These guys were dominating the scene by pumping out their rock – honest, hard and fast…
Rhabstallion reformed early 2018. The New Wave of British Heavy Metal (NWOBHM) band, from West Yorkshire, UK features original members, from the 1979 lineup Dave Thompson, Stuart Toddington on guitars, Jack Himsworth drums, Graham Hooper bass with Andy Wood guitarist / vocalist who had previously been in the Rhabstallion line up between September 1981 to 1984.
The unique fact that this band features all original members is something to behold and already quotes from the press are saying ‘ones to watch’ and ‘band of the festival’, which shows that Rhabstallion are back, still very able and certainly ready to rock.
For this album the band tucked themselves away in a corner of a mill in West Yorkshire, UK and began rehearsals, reworking some of the old favourite songs and writing new material. They have woven their magic to create a bigger, harder and more unforgiving sound.
The first single and featured track will be Never Say Never and is typical of the commitment and dedication the band put in. Never Say Never was the phrase used in 1994 when a reunion was talked about whilst recording extra material for the ‘Day to Day’ album.
Over the years, at least four of the band have been working night shifts to supplement their income to allow them to follow their love of music. Just listen to ‘Working Nights’ where this is referenced, and also to the line in ‘Real World’ which states (were playing at the weekend, and never get paid) which is even more relevant within these ‘Covid’ times.
Nellie Bly & Nowhere Left to Fall also show another side of Rhabstallions’ writing prowess, with some subtle variations and moods.
